How to build a garden misting system
A misting line is a thin tube with fine nozzles that cools the air as the water evaporates. Most kits are simple to fit.
Plan the line
Decide where the mist should fall before you cut any tube.
Length and spacing
Kits are sold in lengths from about 5m to 30m with nozzles spaced along the tube.
Layout
Run the tube along a fence line, pergola beam or the edge of the patio.
Tip
Use clips to hold the line away from where people walk.
Water supply
Most kits connect to a standard garden tap with a quick connector.
Pressure
Fine misting works best with good mains pressure.
Tip
Add a tap timer so the mist switches off by itself.
Keep it running
Small nozzles can block with limescale.
Maintenance
Flush the line before you first use it and clean nozzles when the mist weakens.
Winter
Drain the line and bring fittings inside in freezing weather.
Tip
Soak blocked nozzles in a mild descaling solution.
